NEWS

2009-10 Urban Archery Deer Season

Deer Season will soon be upon us so it is time to get ready. This season will run from September 8, 2009 to November 15, 2009 and again from January 1 to January 31, 2010. There will be no bag limit during this archery only hunt. The first deer taken must be a doe. After that, deer of either sex may be taken. Deer taken within the Cherokee Village Urban Zone do not count in the hunter's seasonal bag limit. The three point rule does not apply to this hunt.

Two hundred fifty permits will be issued for the 2009-10 season. Successful applicants must take and pass the International Bowhunter Education Course before attending a hunter orientation class and passing a shooting proficiency test on August 29, 2009 at 8 A.M. at the Baseheart Fire Station in Cherokee Village.

DEBRIS REMOVAL

CHEROKEE VILLAGE

The following is an update on the debris removal:

 ·        Crews and contractors are removing hanging limbs in several sections. Final storm debris pick up started Section 1. A handful of streets will have 1st pass completed this week.

·        Final date for any ice storm related limbs to be placed at roadside was May 31, 2009 for final pickup. The City will continue to pick up any ice storm related limbs put out at the roadside by May 31, 2009. Ice storm related limbs put out after May 31, 2009 will not be picked up by the City.

·        Over 36,824 cubic yards of debris have been removed: this is over 2/3 of the total estimated by the Corps of Engineers.

·        The debris dump site is still open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, weather permitting. It is located on Route 289 directly across from the Spring River Animal Shelter.

Each Friday morning 9-9:30 AM at City Hall we will continue answering any questions residents may have about the debris removal project.

Again, the safety of residents and workers is paramount. Please avoid work areas and take alternative routes during this project.

 Thank you for your patience.
