Cherokee Village Police
Department Launches "Wanted" Web Page
Now residents in and around Cherokee Village as well as law enforcement
agencies throughout the state of Arkansas can go online and see photos of
individuals with information on their charges that have warrants for arrest
at the Cherokee Village Police Department.
The ”Wanted” Web page is part of an ongoing community policing effort
initiated about a year ago with the Cherokee Village Neighborhood Watch
Program coordinated by Bob Smith. Community policing implements the idea
that community interaction and support can help control crime and make the
community a safer place to live. Neighborhood Watch is a good example of how
citizens and their police department can work together to prevent and solve
crime. The “Wanted” Web page is a new step in the Cherokee Village community
policing effort. With help from the public, the Cherokee Village Police
Department will be able to serve more warrants to bring defendants to court
in an effort to reduce and prevent crime. Other police departments that have
initiated similar Web pages have experienced a significant increase in
arrests made possible due to tips or people “turning themselves in” after
their names and photos were posted on the website.
