Message From Chief Of Police:  Scott Goodwin  Cherokee Village Police Dept.

As the Chief of Police for the City of Cherokee Village I would like to welcome you to our website.  The CVPD is dedicated to establishing an environment in which members of the department and community thrive.  I welcome your thoughts and comments toward this endeavor.  As our department and programs grow and change, so will this site, which is designed to be available to community members and visitors alike.

 Filing a Crime Report

WHERE TO FILE: When a crime is committed, the jurisdiction usually belongs to the location where the crime occurred. Crimes that occur within the city limits of Cherokee Village (both Fulton and Sharp counties) need to be reported to the Cherokee Village Police Department.

To contact the police to report a crime that is NOT in progress or is NOT an emergency, call 257-5225 during normal office hours - 7:00 - 3:00, Monday - Friday (excluding holidays).  This number will connect you to the Administrative Office of the Police Department.  After normal administrative office hours, officers can be reached in the event of an emergency by dialing 911.

To report a crime in progress or an emergency - CALL 911.

WHEN TO FILE: As soon as possible when you become aware that a crime has been committed. Memories and evidence will be fresh. Your credibility will be greater. Cherokee Village Police Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

IS THERE A CRIME? When the police respond to your call or you go to the Police Department to file a crime report, the officer will determine whether a crime occurred before writing the report.  A Law Enforcement Officer is trained to determine if a crime occurred and to take a police report.  The law requires that various "elements" are needed for an event to be considered a crime. When you describe what happened, the officer is trained to match the event with the appropriate law or statue and to insure that the elements are present. The officer then includes in the narrative of the report the details needed to prove that a crime occurred.
